St. Louis-based photographer Michael Eastman presented a series of photos from his new book, Vanishing America, last week in the J.C. Penney Conference Center. For his book, Eastman traveled cross-country, capturing images that included run-down movie theatres and pre-Katrina New Orleans.

"What's Current" is a free service for all student organizations and campus departments. Deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. the Thursday before publication. Space consideration is given to student organizations and is on a first-come, first-served basis. We suggest all postings be submitted at least one week prior to the event. Listings may be edited in regards to space availability and style. Jazz Ensemble & Vocal Point

This concert is a must see for the holiday season, featuring the UMSL Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jim Widner and Vocal Point, UMSL's premier acappella group under the direction of Dr. Jim Henry.

Holiday classics will be presented in the stylings of Stan Kenton, Singers Unlimited and Diana Krall. This is rapidly becoming one of the most anticipated concerts of the holiday season.

Oil and Class Struggle in Nigeria

University Symphonic Band

University Symphonic Band concert featuring Jeanine York-Garesche as clarinet soloist. Jeanine is instructor of clarinet at UM-St. Louis.

The program will also include various works from the concert band repetoire such as "The Free Lance March" by John Philip Sousa, Mvt. #5, "Hobbits" from the "Lord of the Rings Symphony" by Johann deMiej and many more.

The Mind of Peace Experiment

Five Israelis meet five Palestinians to discuss, debate and negotiate different solutions to one of the most entrenched conflicts in the world. They have five formal sessions to reach a peace agreement. At the end of each formal session, the audience will be allowed to comment, react and ask questions.

Sessions will take place on December 3, 7, 10, 14 and 17. Wednesday sessions will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday sessions will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. All sessions will take place in 331 SSB.
