The St. Louis City Police Department arrested a suspect on Saturday June 30, during a traffic stop. Further investigation determined that some copper pipes and a valve found in his vehicle were taken from UM-St. Louis.

The suspect was arrested on other charges, and the UM-St. Louis detective bureau recovered the copper pipes and valve from his towed vehicle. After comparing the copper with the old Normandy Hospital, it was determined that the copper pipe was stolen from there. Charges for the burglary and stealing will follow upon the completion of the investigation.

Sometime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. person(s) unknown stole a purse from the office, which was left unlocked with the purse unattended. A coworker found the purse in the women's restroom on the second floor prior to the victim realizing it was gone. When she returned it to the victim, some cash and one credit card were missing.

Property Damage (2nd Degree) - University Meadows

At approximately 10 p.m., two unknown male subjects caused damage to the entrance gate at the complex by walking up to the gate and physically pushing it open. This action caused the motor and gearing to break. The suspects are not identified at this time.

Property Damage (2nd Degree) / Resisting Arrest - University Meadows

A subject not affiliated with UM-St. Louis was arrested for property damage, peace disturbance and charged with resisting arrest. This suspect had apparently been drinking at a residence off campus and came to the Meadows with friends.

When they got to the Meadows, the suspect (who was highly intoxicated) punched through a window in an apartment in building #5. When the police arrived, the suspect was highly agitated and very uncooperative.

He also had some blood on his arm from a cut he received while breaking the window. Three campus officers managed to place the suspect under arrest and transported him to the hospital for treatment.

After treatment, the suspect was brought back to the campus police station where he was processed for the charges and released to his father. The suspect will face charges through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Warrant Arrests/Drug Violation - Marillac Hall

Four arrests were made in connection with a disturbance at Marillac Hall. At approximately 6:40 a.m., a custodian called the campus police to report he had an altercation with relatives at his house prior to coming to work, and they were now at Marillac Hall chasing him.

When the officers arrived, they detained two suspects and checked them for warrants. Both suspects had active warrants for their arrest and were taken into custody.

A check of an occupied vehicle belonging to this same family revealed two more suspects sitting in the car. The officers observed the occupants trying to hide something as they approached, and upon further investigation found several small bags of marijuana under the seat.

These additional two suspects were checked and also found to have active warrants for their arrests. All these subjects were transported to the police station where they were processed and later released to the proper agencies. Possible Domestic Disturbance - SSB Tower

At approximately 5:30 a.m., the UM-St. Louis Police Department received a call for a possible disturbance between a boyfriend and a girlfriend on the fourth floor of the Tower building.

The custodians working in this area observed one of the female employees working for a temporary cleaning crew (not related to the University) getting into a disturbance with her boyfriend who just showed up at her work.

Both subjects got into the elevator and left the building. An officer observed the two get into a car and they were still arguing. The other officer on duty tried to stop the vehicle as it drove southbound on West Drive toward Natural Bridge Road.

The vehicle being driven by a male subject refused to stop and a short pursuit started eastbound on Natural Bridge Road at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was ended due to the excessive speeds and unknown nature of the original incident.

The female employee later returned to the campus police station where she was interviewed and indicated that the altercation was minor and that she had gone with her boyfriend voluntarily. The male subject driving the vehicle will face some traffic charges as it relates to the failing to stop for the police and driving at high rate of speed.

Stealing Over $500 - MSC Bookstore

At approximately 4 p.m., a student had his textbooks stolen. The victim relayed that he had just purchased the books and went into the bathroom and put the books on the shelf out of sight and when he was finished using the facilities, his books were gone. The bookstore was informed of the theft and he notified the campus police.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the bookstore reported suspects were in the bookstore trying to sell back the stolen textbooks. The UM-St. Louis police responded and located four juveniles (not students at the university) in the hallway of the bookstore.

The bookstore employees identified two of the suspects that had tried to sell back the stolen textbooks. One of the suspects that had the textbooks still in his hands approached the officer in an aggressive manner and was detained until other officers could assist.

At some point in the encounter, one of the other juveniles displayed a gun and the arriving officer immediately grabbed it and took it away. It was later determined to be a BB gun.

All four suspects were taken to the campus police station for investigation, and it was determined that only two of them (the one with the textbooks and the one carrying the BB gun) were involved in the theft. The two that were not involved were released. The two remaining suspects were processed for the stealing offense and released pending the notification of the court systems.

The officers responded and located a person who had just walked out of the building. After further investigation it is believed that this person was inside when the building closed for the day and set the alarm off as he left.

The individual told the officers he was in the building watching a DVD movie, which he had brought.

This suspect was arrested and transported to the UM-St. Louis police station and processed for trespassing in the first degree. He was released pending the application of warrants through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
