The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball program is going to be doing a lot of traveling over the upcoming winter break.

The women's team will be heading off to play in Hawaii on Dec. 17th and 19th in the Hoop 'N Surf Classic.

While the men's team will not be making such a long trip, they will play in an invitational of their own in the Subway Holiday Tourney in Quincy Illinois. While the men have started their season off 4-1, the women have yet to hit their stride as they are 1-4.

Neither team has started conference play and those games will prove to be tough for both teams. The men and women's programs will complete their non-conference schedules over the break, but not before they face off against conference opponents Quincy University and Lewis University.

The men's team will host five games at home over break and the women will as well, although the only non-conference opponent that they will both face will be Oakland City.

When the dust settles from all the traveling and the student athletes return to their classes, the women's basketball team will have traveled nearly 10,000 miles.

The men's program will have only traveled about a quarter of that distance. The women's trip from St. Louis to Honolulu will take up the bulk of the difference of the men's and women's distances.

A one way flight will cover over 4,000 miles. Besides flying to Hawaii, the teams will travel in a bus to their respective cities. For some trips the two teams might take one bus such as the games being played at Northern Kentucky.

Players and coaches may not make it home from road games until 1 a.m. or even later, depending on where and what time the games are being played.

Student-athletes will most likely not be taking winter intersession courses, as they will have games at least once a week over the entire break. In January, they will play six games before school begins.

The last men's home game before school starts again is Jan. 15 against Bellarmine University, starting at 5:30 p.m. The women play the same day at 7:30 p.m., also against Bellarmine.
