So - it is that month again, the one when we celebrate that special day of love. Valentine's Day is a day filled with a few roses, some chocolate, maybe a candle or two and, of course, food.
After all, what better way to end a perfect Valentine's Day than with a romantic dinner for two? Luckily, there are fabulous restaurants in St. Louis that have much to contribute to a romantic evening.
Cristo's
Cristo's is a quiet restaurant with low lights that create a romantic setting. Some of everything is offered, from seafood and chicken to cheese steak (the best seller). A plus to enjoying a wonderful dinner is that it will not empty your pockets; prices begin at $1.50 for dessert and reach no higher than $24.50 for an entrée.
Although a dress code is not required, the atmosphere says otherwise, and reservations are not necessary.
Cristo's is located at 8901 Riverview Boulevard, at the corner of Bellefontaine and Riverview.
Niche
Niche provides a small, intimate environment, perfect for an impressive evening with someone special. Upscale and modern are the favored words at this restaurant. The four-course menu includes "snacks," "first things first," "on to bigger and better things" and "sweet dreams." Anything from marinated olives and Carolina gold risotto to blood orange puffs and liquid chocolate cake can be ordered at this chic eatery. Prices range from $4-$28 at Niche, and a 'three for $35' menu is also available.
Reservations are necessary at Niche, and so is formal dress.
Niche is located at 1831 Sydney Street, in the Soulard neighborhood.

P.F. Chang's
P.F. Chang's is a large China bistro with fabulous Asian cuisine. Any style dress is acceptable here. Guests can order from a regular menu, where prices start at $10 and do not exceed $20, or choose from the new "Chang's for two" menu. This menu is a four-course dinner costing only $39.95. The meal includes soup, starters, entrees such as Ginger Chicken with broccoli, or Pepper Steak and mini desserts. The "Chang's for two" menu is a good way to have an elaborate Valentine's dinner without breaking the bank.
Reservations are not necessary, but they are suggested (especially for Valentine's Day).
P.F. Chang's is located at 25 The Blvd, across from the St. Louis Galleria.

Ruiz
Ruiz is a family oriented, Mexican restaurant, but it also serves well as a place for a romantic evening. Prices range from $1.99-19.99 at Ruiz. Also available is the "create two" or "create three" menu; guests choose two or three items, such as an enchilada, tostada, pepito or flauta. As a Valentine's Day bonus, each guest will receive an envelope with a surprise for the next time they visit the restaurant in it.
Reservations are accepted but not necessary, and any style dress is appropriate.

The Melting Pot
The Melting Pot is a quaint and certainly unique fondue restaurant. On every table at The Melting Pot is a heated plate that is controlled by a temperature switch on the side of the table itself.
The four-course "Fondue Feast" is the best seller here and costs $42 per person. The Fondue Feast begins with the cheese fondue followed by a salad, an entrée and a dessert. Entrees are served uncooked and chopped into pieces. Guests dip their pieces into the simmering pot on the table and cook it independently.
Desserts such as "cookie and cream marshmallow dream" are offered and can be dipped in chocolate fondue. For Valentine's Day, a five-course dinner will be offered along with a champagne toast, live entertainment and a goody bag, all for $70. At this restaurant, the extra expense means quality.
Reservations are necessary here, and formal dress is suggested.
The Melting Pot is located at 6683 Delmar Blvd in the Loop.
