"I signed up for information at The Current'?s freshman orientation booth without any clue how this organization would impact my life. Put simply, college could not have been nearly as rewarding without my four-year newspaper involvement. My diploma currently sits on a bookshelf at home, but skills sharpened by years of UMSL newspapering have a clear effect on my editing, design, management and organization at work every day. The Current challenged me to make adult decisions, encouraged me to learn through experience, forced me to grow personally and professionally, became my home and family, and gave me an edge in the post-grad job hunt. This organization will give you as much as you give it (if not more), so I highly recommend getting involved!"
- Kate Kimble (2004-2005 Editor-in-Chief of The Current)
"The Current changed my life. When I started out at UMSL, I wasn't sure where I was headed. The Current gave me direction. Chasing news, editing stories and designing pages on deadline hooked me on newspapers for good. In fact, no class, no club and no other activity at UMSL came close to giving me the same knowledge and experience I acquired at The Current. Plus I got paid. It's like an anti-university model: getting paid to learn. The Current launched me right into a career. Now I thrive on making the fast-paced deadlines of a daily newspaper."
- Josh Renaud (2000-2001 Editor-in-Chief of The Current)
"The Current provided an ample opportunity to improve and showcase my writing skills and allowed me to obtain instrumental leadership experience. I met students and faculty who have helped tremendously with my professional career as references, mentors and friends. The paper has been key in the foundation to my future, providing the necessary skills needed to succeed in the professional world."
- Becky Rosner (2004-2005 Managing Editor of The Current)
"I initially joined The Current as a side job to make some extra money. I was a biology major at the time, but after writing my fifth article, I was hooked. I became more interested in journalism and eventually switched to a major in communication. Today, I still credit The Current as the reason I switched majors. Joining The Current has opened so many opportunities for me in terms of acquiring internships."
- Paul Hackbarth (2007-2008 Editor-in-Chief of The Current)
