With both a smile and a flame on her face, Stephanie Schuette was one of hundreds of people who gathered in the MSC for the welcome back to school picnic at UM-St. Louis on Sunday. "I am the coach of the [UM-St. Louis dance team] the Flames," said Schuette, alumni, business administration management "…I'm doing a little promoting by having a flame painted on my face.
As the 2008-2009 academic year begins, the Student Government Association officers are preparing to handle any situation that may come their way. While most students have been enjoying their summers, the SGA members have been working to ensure students' needs are being met.
As summer vacation comes to an end, students will spend their first week of classes meeting with advisors, purchasing textbooks and either learning their way around campus or reacquainting themselves with it. While students do not spend too much of their time studying between classes during the first week of the semester, pretty soon it may prove difficult to find an empty chair or table in which to study, eat or surf the web.
"Anybody who says that sports is just fun and games doesn't know anything about modern life, " Charles Korr said. The UM-St. Louis professor emeritus of history has seen the true spirit of men come to life through sports in the hardest of times. A research project of his lasting the past 14 years came to fruition last fall in a film titled, More than a Game.
