Usually, the activities planned for Welcome Back Week revolve around fun, games, and an abundance of free food. The result, hopefully, is that UM-St. Louis students become excited to begin the new school year and will continue to be involved on campus. Every once in a while, however, there is an event that asks students to give back to their community.
As Welcome Week and its numerous events rolled through UM-St. Louis, students with every background, major, and hobby found endless options for free entertainment. Rounding out the week was a night of food and music in the Pilot House, sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
Welcome Week kicked off Monday, Aug. 18, with the Amazing Arthur & Ice Cream Social. The Amazing Arthur, a comedian with multiple talents, performed magic tricks, juggled, yo-yoed, and hypnotized students as they enjoyed free ice cream. Tuesday, students enjoyed a good old-fashioned drive-in movie in Parking Lot C outside of the Millennium Student Center.
A group of roughly 50 University of Missouri-St. Louis students crowded in to a cramped space in Oak Hall with empty stomachs and open minds, eager to learn about healthy eating habits. Kevin T. Roberts, better known as Kevin the Food Dude, came to give a cooking presentation as part of the Welcome Week festivities organized by Student Life, which took place on campus all last week.
