Someone tell the University of Missouri - St. Louis volleyball team that they are not supposed to be this good. After being picked to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West division, the Tritons lost their first GLVC match at 25th ranked Northern Kentucky University 0-3 on Thursday but went on to beat 22nd ranked Indianapolis University.
As the conference-leading Triton volleyball team took the court last Thursday, the stands were packed with fans cheering their team to victory, again. Actually that is not at all true, except for the "conference-leading" and "victory" parts. There were officially 154 people in attendance, although that includes the referees, the coaches, the volleyball players, the custodians and that one guy who walked in to lift weights downstairs.
The Sunday women's soccer match against Missouri University of Science and Technology proved to be a good game for the University of Missouri-St. Louis as the Tritons beat their sister school 2-0. It took 50 minutes for the first goal to be scored until Maggie Gabris, junior, business marketing, finished her shot on the left side after a cross by Lynn Cerny, accounting.
While the women were able to beat the Miners, the men were not so fortunate. After keeping the game scoreless for 82 minutes, with eight minutes of regulation play left, Zack Hay of Missouri S&T beat UM-St. Louis keeper Mike Bober, senior, electrical engineering, off a rebound to score the only goal of the game.
Men's Tennis Junior Andi Dimke (international business/management) won the Gold Flight singles at the Saint Louis Billiken Classic, defeating St. Louis University's Ken Nordheim in the tie breaking set 10-7. The win brings Dimke's second tournament flight win, as he also won the Washington University Tournament earlier in the year.
