Whether you were a fan of David Cook or David Archuleta, everyone can agree that last season of "American Idol" was far from a disappointment to its loyal fans.

Both Davids had vibrant personalities and some serious talent, but America voted and David Cook won by approximately 12 million votes. Did viewers get it wrong?

Last November, David Cook released his self-titled album, receiving mixed reviews. Is it possible that those who gave Cook negative reviews did not like him, his type of music or were just plain mad that David Archuleta came finished in second place? Considering the enormous popularity of the album, it must be a combination of all three.

Statistically, Cook's album speaks for itself. His first and extremely popular single "The Time of My Life" debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 3. The album also debuted at No. 1 on Top Digital Albums, giving American Idol its 210th No. 1 on a Billboard chart.

His popularity cannot be denied. According to the "American Idol" website, Cook's "The Time of My Life" charted in the double digits, making him one of only 15 solo male artists to do so for 10 weeks or more since 1961.

Besides "The Time of My Life," Cook's self-titled album has 12 tracks, and each one is a little better and a little edgier than the last. The album does not spoon-feed listeners the same stuff that fans heard each week on television. It is understandable that fans fell in love with those songs, but one must take into consideration that these are songs that they probably already loved.

While Cook put his own unique rock-like edge to songs like "Always Be My Baby, "Billy Jean" and "Hello," these were not the kind of songs he played before "American Idol," and probably not the kinds he wanted to play after.

So this is definitely not your typical post-"American Idol" album. Keeping to his genre of music, Cook included the track "A Daily Anthem," a song off of his never-released second solo album.

The songs on this self-titled album truly reflect the genre of music he is meant to be playing. All tracks on the album were either written or co-written by Cook.

The album is an outstanding collaboration of his pre-"American Idol" band days and songwriting experiences.

While most of the fans swooning over this album are women of various ages, the album offers something for fans of all ages.

It offers both provocative ballads like "Come Back to Me" and edgy rock songs like "Bar-ba-sol" to satisfy both die-hard "Idol" fans and new curious listeners.

This exceptional album offers listeners a little bit of love with a whole lot of rock. Cook has definitely set the standards high for "American Idol" and its future winners. The young rocker can only get better.
